Parson's Pond Outfitters is situated in a pristine wilderness area in north west Newfoundland. With large numbers of moose and caribou, hunters can expect numerous opportunities too hunt the trophy animal of a lifetime.

 

Many hunters choose to add a bear to their hunts, and bears of a very large size are not uncommon to find.

Moose

Our most popular big game animal is the moose. Island populations are estimated at 120,000 animals and non-resident hunters have access to some of the most remote inland areas to pursue this huge beast. Moose can weigh 544kg (1200 pounds) or more, but despite their size are able to move swiftly and gracefully along the fringes of marshes and through nearly impenetrable forests. Moose seasons fall within the time of the annual mating urge when bulls may be “called” by guides to within and easy rifle or bow shot.

Non-resident license quotas are strictly controlled and may be acquired only through approved outfitters. Packages are usually of a week’s duration and include meals, knowledgeable guides, transportation in to the campsite and comfortable lodging. Moose meat is delicious to eat and you’ll be sure to bring back every morsel for your freezer. Moose antlers are also a unique trophy to take back home.

Licenses are limited, so interested persons should respond quickly. All forms for licenses will be handled by us.

Every year we kill many moose in excess of 40 inch spread with some over 50 inches.

Caribou

Healthy, well managed herds of both woodland and barren ground caribou live in many regions of the province. These are majestic animals and it is a rare privilege to encounter them in their natural habitat.

About 40,000 woodland caribou roam wilderness areas of the island and are available on a limited quote basis to non-resident hunters through outfitter packages. Most of these utilize fly-in service to reach the remote campsites where the great herds migrate each fall. Hunters may take one male animal per license.

Black Bear

Black bear hunting in western Newfoundland is a popular outdoor activity that attracts hunters from far and wide. The region is known for its thriving black bear population, with an estimated number of 2500 bears inhabiting the area. The abundance of suitable habitat and natural food sources has contributed to the healthy growth of the black bear population in this region.

To maintain a sustainable balance between wildlife conservation and hunting interests, wildlife management authorities have implemented a strict permitting system. Each year, hunters are permitted to harvest a limited number of bears to prevent overhunting and ensure the long-term survival of the species. The number of bears hunters are allowed to harvest is closely monitored and regulated to protect the population and preserve the ecological integrity of the area.

Licensing

License applications will be mailed upon request to be returned with required deposit. Maps and instruction will be mailed upon receipt of deposit. All deposits are non-refundable but are transferable.
